API Key Generator
Generate a random API key, with an optional prefix. 100% local processing in your browser (WebAssembly) — nothing is sent to a server.
How it works
Before connecting an app to a real authentication system, it's often useful to have a test API key in the right format — to fill in a .env environment file, a CI variable, or simply to develop an integration without yet depending on a real account. This tool generates a random alphanumeric string of the desired length, preceded by the prefix of your choice (for example sk_test_ or pk_live_, as many APIs do).
Can this key be used as a real API key in production?
No. It's a randomly generated string, locally, with no link to any actual service or account. For a real production API key, you always need to go through the provider's official dashboard (Stripe, OpenAI, AWS, etc.), which links it to an account, permissions and billing.
Does the prefix have a specific role?
The prefix only serves to visually identify the type or environment of the key (test vs. production, for example), similar to what Stripe or GitHub do with their own prefixes. It's added as-is before the random part, without influencing its generation.
Privacy: generation happens entirely in your browser via WebAssembly — the key is never sent to a server.
