Tap BPM Counter
Find the tempo (in beats per minute, BPM) of a track by simply tapping the beat with your mouse or keyboard. The BPM is calculated and updated live with each tap, based on the average interval between your recent taps.
Tip: tap at least 4 to 8 times for a stable reading. If you pause for more than 2 seconds, the counter automatically resets to zero so it can adapt to a new tempo.
How it works
With each tap, the precise timestamp of the click (or spacebar press) is recorded. From the second tap onward, the tool calculates the time interval between each pair of consecutive taps, averages these intervals, then converts that average into beats per minute using the formula BPM = 60000 / average interval in milliseconds. Only the last 10 taps are kept so the result stays responsive if you change tempo along the way.
Why does the displayed BPM vary slightly with each tap?
Nobody taps a rhythm with millisecond-perfect regularity: slight variations are normal. The more regular taps you accumulate, the more the average stabilizes and the more accurate the BPM estimate becomes. For a reliable result, tap at least a dozen times while trying to stay as close as possible to the real tempo.
What happens if I stop tapping and resume later?
If more than 2 seconds pass between two taps, the tool assumes you're starting over (for example, to measure a new track) and automatically resets the history, rather than mixing two different tempos into the same average.
