Adjust Audio File Gain (dB)

Increase or decrease the volume of a WAV file by a specific number of decibels (positive to increase, negative to decrease). Works only with 16-bit PCM WAV files.

Example:
Drag and drop one or more .wav files here, or click to select them (100 MB max each).
Example: +6 roughly doubles perceived volume, -6 halves it.

How It Works

Is a recording too quiet or too loud compared to your other tracks? This tool multiplies the amplitude of each sample by a factor calculated from the gain in decibels you specify, which increases or decreases perceived volume without changing speed or pitch.

What happens if I increase the gain too much?

Samples that would exceed the maximum representable 16-bit value are clipped to that value, which can introduce audible distortion. For a clean result, prefer a moderate gain (a few dB) over an extreme value.

How do I know how many dB to increase the volume?

Each +6 dB increase roughly doubles perceived amplitude, and each -6 dB reduction halves it. A +/- 3 dB adjustment is already clearly audible.
