Remove silence at the start/end of an audio file (WAV)
Automatically detects and removes silence at the start and end of a WAV recording.
How it works
Ideal for cleaning up a podcast or voice-over recording that starts or ends with a few seconds of dead silence (the time it takes to start the recording, or residual background noise after the last sentence). The tool finds the strongest amplitude peak in your file, then considers as "silent" any passage whose level stays below the chosen threshold relative to that peak; it then removes the silent portions at the very start and the very end, keeping intact everything in between (including internal silences, for example between two sentences).
Which threshold should I choose?
A threshold around -40 dB works well for most typical voice recordings. If the silence isn't fully removed, try a less negative threshold (for example -30 dB); if the tool cuts a bit too much, including quiet speech, try a more negative threshold (for example -55 dB).
Does it also remove silences in the middle of the recording?
No, only the silences at the very start and very end of the file. Pauses between sentences or between speakers, in the middle of the recording, are kept as they are.
