Universal Audio Converter to WAV

Convert an MP3, OGG, M4A, AAC, FLAC, OPUS, or any other common audio format to WAV, a non-compressed format readable everywhere. The output is always WAV: there is currently no reliable, free MP3/OGG/AAC encoder that can run entirely in a browser.

MP3, OGG, M4A, AAC, FLAC, OPUS… — 100 MB max per file

How It Works

For MP3 and OGG files, the tool uses a decoder written in Rust and compiled to WebAssembly. For other formats (M4A, AAC, FLAC, OPUS, WebM…), it uses your browser's native Web Audio API (decodeAudioData), which already includes the necessary codecs, and then rebuilds a standard WAV file from the decoded samples.

Why is the output never an MP3 or OGG?

Byteryo works 100% client-side, without any server: there is currently no pure-browser MP3 or OGG Vorbis encoder that is free, lightweight, and reliable enough for mainstream use. WAV, on the other hand, is a non-compressed format that is simple to generate locally and readable by absolutely every audio player, even if it produces a larger file.

Are all formats guaranteed to work?

MP3 and OGG formats are decoded reliably and identically in all browsers. Other formats (M4A, AAC, FLAC, OPUS…) depend on the codecs built into the browser you're using: most modern browsers (Chrome, Edge, Safari, Firefox) support them, but a very old or exotic format may fail with a clear error message rather than a corrupted result.

Can I convert a file that is already WAV?

Yes, it will simply be decoded and re-encoded as standard WAV via the browser API, which can be useful for normalizing a WAV with an unusual encoding format.

100% local processing: the decoding and WAV file reconstruction are done entirely in your browser, via WebAssembly and/or the native Web Audio API — your file is never sent to a server.
