White Noise Generator
Generate a pure white noise WAV file with the duration, sample rate, channel count, and volume of your choice. Useful for masking ambient noise, improving focus, or testing audio equipment.
How It Works
White noise is a random signal in which all audible frequencies are present with statistically equal energy, unlike pink noise or brown noise, which emphasize lower frequencies. This tool draws, for each sample, a uniform random value between -1 and 1, multiplies it by the chosen volume, and encodes it as 16-bit PCM in a standard WAV file.
Why generate the two stereo channels separately instead of duplicating one channel?
When you choose stereo mode, each channel (left and right) gets its own independent random sequence rather than an identical copy. This 'true' uncorrelated noise sounds more natural and enveloping than duplicated noise, which gives the impression of a perfectly centered, artificial sound.
What can generated white noise be used for in practice?
It is commonly used to mask annoying ambient noises (air conditioning, traffic, neighbors), to help with focus or falling asleep, to calibrate or test speakers and headphones, or as a neutral sound base in an edit.
