AZERTY / QWERTY Keyboard Layout Converter

Did you type text with the wrong keyboard layout selected and get an incomprehensible result? This tool converts your text character by character from QWERTY to AZERTY or from AZERTY to QWERTY, entirely in your browser.

Example:

How it works

Each key on your keyboard has a fixed physical position but produces a different character depending on the active layout. If your system is set to the wrong layout, your text appears predictably garbled: every character corresponds exactly to the one produced by the other layout on the same physical key. This tool applies that mapping to restore the text you actually meant to type.

Why does "Bonjour;" become "Bonjour,"?

On a QWERTY keyboard, the key to the right of "L" produces a semicolon ";"; the same physical key produces "m" on an AZERTY keyboard. Conversely, the key that produces "m" on a QWERTY keyboard produces a comma "," on an AZERTY keyboard, which explains these substitutions that often appear in mistyped text.

Are all characters converted?

The tool covers letters, the main swapped punctuation marks (comma, semicolon, apostrophe...) and the non-accented numbers on the top row. Characters that are already identical on both layouts (spaces, most letters in the middle of the keyboard) remain unchanged.

No input is sent to a server: the conversion happens locally, character by character, in your browser.
