2FA Backup Codes Generator
Generate backup codes for two-factor authentication (2FA) on an account.
How it works
When you enable two-factor authentication (2FA) on an account, most services also offer backup codes: a list of single-use codes that let you sign in if you lose access to your authenticator app or your phone. This tool generates a list of codes in standard format (two groups of 4 digits separated by a dash, e.g. 1234-5678), ready to print or copy immediately somewhere safe — a password manager or a printed document kept offline.
Where should I keep these codes once generated?
Ideally in an encrypted password manager, or printed and stored in a safe physical location (a safe, a locked drawer). Avoid leaving them in a plain, unprotected text file on your desktop or in an unencrypted email: these are access codes to your account, just like a password.
Do these codes replace my authenticator app?
No, they're a complement. Backup codes are designed for exceptional use — lost phone, reinstall, outage — not as the primary sign-in method. Most services automatically invalidate them after use or when a new list is regenerated.
Privacy: generation happens entirely in your browser via WebAssembly — these codes are never sent to a server.
