How it works
EAN-13 (European Article Number) is the barcode standard used on almost all products sold in retail stores across Europe. It includes 12 identification digits (country prefix, manufacturer code, product code) followed by a thirteenth check digit mathematically calculated from the first twelve. Enter your first 12 digits and let the tool calculate this digit automatically.
How is the check digit calculated?
Each digit in an odd position (from the left, counting from 1) is multiplied by 1, each digit in an even position by 3; the sum of these products is then rounded up to the next multiple of 10, and the difference gives the check digit. This standard calculation lets a checkout scanner detect a reading or entry error.
Can I use any code for a real product sold commercially?
No: to sell a product in stores with an officially recognized EAN-13, the prefix and manufacturer code must be assigned by an official body (GS1 in most countries). This tool generates a technically valid barcode image from any number, useful for testing, mockups or internal use, but it doesn't replace an official assignment for retail sales.
Generation is done locally in your browser via WebAssembly: your codes are never transmitted to a server.
