Encode / Decode Base62

Convert text to Base62 (digits and letters, no special characters) or decode a Base62 string back to original text. Ideal for generating compact, URL-friendly identifiers without ever leaving your browser.

Example:

How it works

Base62 represents binary data using only the 62 alphanumeric characters (0-9, a-z, A-Z), with no punctuation or padding. The text is first converted to UTF-8 bytes, then interpreted as a large integer, which is then rewritten in base 62, digit by digit.

Why use Base62 instead of Base64?

Base64 also uses the characters '+', '/' and '=', which must be specially encoded in a URL. Base62 does away with them entirely: the resulting string can be used as-is in a URL, file name, or short identifier, with no extra escaping.

Is the result always the same length?

No. Unlike Base64, which produces a fixed length per group of bytes, Base62 depends on the numeric value of the encoded text: two texts of the same length can produce Base62 strings of slightly different lengths.
