Convert Text to Binary (and Vice Versa)

Turn text into its binary representation (one 8-bit byte per UTF-8 character), or decode a binary sequence back into text.

Example:

Text to binary

Binary to text

Groups of 8 bits (0 or 1), separated by spaces.

How It Works

Each character is represented in memory by one or more bytes (8 bits), themselves made of 0s and 1s. This tool converts text into its sequence of binary bytes (each 8-bit group separated by a space), useful in programming or teaching, and does the reverse: reconstructing text from a binary sequence.

Why do some accented characters produce several 8-bit groups?

The text is encoded in UTF-8, where non-ASCII characters (like "é" or emojis) take 2 to 4 bytes instead of one. That's normal: a displayed character doesn't always correspond to a single byte in memory.

What happens if I enter an invalid binary sequence?

If a bit group isn't exactly 8 digits made only of 0 and 1, or if the decoded sequence doesn't form valid UTF-8 text, a clear error message is shown instead of corrupt output.

100% local processing: the conversion runs entirely in your browser via WebAssembly, without ever sending your data to a server.
