Why convert BMP to JPG?

A BMP file is almost always uncompressed, making it much heavier than a comparable-quality JPG photo. Converting to JPG significantly reduces file size, making it easier to send by email, upload to a website, or store large amounts of photos.

What quality setting should I choose?

A quality between 80 and 90 offers an excellent balance between file size and visual fidelity for most uses. Go down to 60-70 if file size is the priority (quick sharing, previews), or up to 95-100 for printing or demanding professional use.

Does converting to JPG degrade the image?

Yes, JPG is a lossy compression format: at high quality, the degradation is usually imperceptible to the naked eye, but the image can no longer be reconstructed pixel-for-pixel identically like the original BMP.

The BMP-to-JPG conversion is calculated locally via WebAssembly: your image never goes through a server.
