Color by Number from a Photo

Turn a photo into a ready-to-print color-by-number page: each area of the grid is assigned the number of the color to use, with a matching color legend.

Drag and drop a photo, or click to browse (25 MB max)

How It Works

The tool first extracts a reduced palette of the dominant colors from your photo, then splits the image into a grid of areas: each area receives the number of the palette color closest to its average hue. The result is a numbered grid on a white background, accompanied by a legend matching each number to its exact color, ready to print and color.

What area and color counts work best for easy coloring?

For a simple, quick coloring (kids, beginners), use a grid 15 to 25 areas wide with 4 to 8 colors. For a result closer to the original photo, with more detail but longer to color, go up to 50–60 areas and 12 to 24 colors.

Can I print the result directly?

Yes: download the generated PNG file and print it from your image viewer or browser (Ctrl+P), using the orientation that matches the shape of the grid. The color legend shown below the image can be printed separately or copied next to the coloring.

Privacy: the color extraction (WebAssembly) and grid computation (JavaScript) run entirely in your browser, with no photo sent to a server.
