How It Works

On the color wheel, a triadic palette combines three colors separated by a constant 120° angle. It's a classic scheme in graphic design and branding: it offers more variety than a monochromatic palette while remaining more harmonious than a random mix of colors. Enter or pick a base color, and the tool automatically calculates the other two hues while keeping the same saturation and lightness.

Why exactly 120°?

The color wheel has 360°. Dividing it into three equal parts (360 / 3 = 120) gives three colors as far apart from each other as possible while still sharing the same rotation logic, ensuring strong contrast without visual clash.

When should I use a triadic palette?

This scheme works well for interfaces that want to stand out (brand identity, illustration, data visualization with multiple categories to distinguish). For web interfaces, generally reserve one color as dominant and use the other two sparingly, as accents.
