Convert cups, spoons, and milliliters to each other, and get an estimated weight in grams based on the ingredient you choose (a cup of flour doesn’t weigh the same as a cup of sugar). Entirely local calculation in your browser.
How it works
Many English-language recipes use cups and spoons instead of grams. But the weight of the same volume unit varies significantly by ingredient: a cup of flour doesn’t weigh the same as a cup of sugar or melted butter. This tool first converts the volume, then applies an approximate density based on the selected ingredient to estimate the weight in grams.
Why is the weight in grams only an estimate?
The actual density of an ingredient depends on many factors: packed or sifted flour, damp or dry sugar, butter temperature... The values used here are common culinary averages, but direct weighing on a scale is still more accurate for a demanding baking recipe.
What’s the difference between a US cup and a metric cup?
The US cup used in this tool is approximately 236.6 ml. Some other countries use a “metric cup” rounded to 250 ml — a difference big enough to throw off a recipe if it’s not accounted for, especially in large quantities.
