Simple crossword generator
Enter your words with their clue (format "WORD;clue") to automatically generate a crossword grid where words sharing common letters cross each other. A handy tool for creating an educational or recreational game, with no data sent online.
How it works
The first word (the longest) is placed horizontally, then each following word is searched for a common letter with an already placed word, allowing it to be positioned by crossing automatically — exactly like in a real crossword grid.
Why are some words not placed?
If a word doesn't share any letter with words already in the grid, or if its placement would conflict with an existing letter, it cannot be crossed and is reported in an error message. Add words with nearby letters to encourage crossings.
How do I play with the generated grid?
Empty squares are hidden by default: read the numbered clues and guess the letters. Use the "Show letters" button at any time to check or reveal the full solution.
Your words and clues stay on your device; no content is sent to a server.
