Split a CSV column into multiple columns
Split a CSV column into several distinct columns using a simple separator (space, dash, semicolon…) or a regular expression.
How it works
Useful when a column actually contains several pieces of information mixed together: a full name to split into first and last name, an address to break apart, or a product reference like “CAT-REF-2024” to split by dash. Enter the column concerned and the separator (a single character, or a regular expression if the option is checked): each resulting part becomes a new column in the output.
What happens if the number of parts varies from one row to another?
The number of columns created matches the maximum number of parts found across all rows. Rows that produce fewer parts simply have empty cells for the extra columns.
When should I use a regular expression instead of a simple separator?
Check the regex option if the separator is not a fixed character, for example to split on one or more spaces (“\s+”) or on several possible characters (“[-_/]”). For a simple space, comma, or dash, a regular separator is enough.
100% local processing: column splitting is done entirely in your browser; your CSV file is never sent to a server.
