Convert a Date to Roman Numerals
Convert a date (birth, wedding, milestone) to Roman numerals — a format often used for a tattoo, an engraving, or a wedding announcement. The conversion is instant and stays entirely in your browser.
How it works
A date tattoo for a birth, wedding anniversary, or child's birth is often done in Roman numerals rather than ordinary Arabic numerals for a more discreet, elegant look. The tool converts the day, month, and year separately into Roman numerals, then combines them with the separator of your choice.
How is the number 0 handled, for example for the month of October (10)?
The Roman system has no symbol for zero: every number from 1 to 3999 is composed from the symbols I, V, X, L, C, D, and M using addition and subtraction rules. So October (10) becomes 'X', and the year 1990 becomes 'MCMXC'.
Can I use this tool for a date after the year 3999?
Classical Roman numerals cover, in practice, numbers only up to 3999 (MMMCMXCIX). For a year beyond that, the conversion remains mathematically possible with a string of 'M' symbols, but it falls outside the traditional usage of the Roman numeral system.
Conversion is a simple mathematical calculation performed in your browser — your date is never transmitted anywhere.
