Decimal Hours Converter
Convert a time expressed in hours and minutes (e.g. 7h30) to a decimal format (e.g. 7.50) used for payroll and billing worked hours, or vice versa. Instant calculation, entirely in your browser.
How it works
Payroll, billing, and time-tracking software often uses a decimal format (e.g. 7.5 hours) rather than an hours:minutes format (7h30), because it's easier to add up and multiply by an hourly rate. This tool converts both ways in one click.
Why don't 30 minutes equal 0.30 in decimal?
A common mistake is converting minutes by simply dividing by 100 (30 minutes → 0.30). But an hour has 60 minutes, not 100: 30 minutes is therefore half an hour, or 0.5 in decimal. This tool applies division by 60 to avoid this classic payroll mix-up.
How do I add up several timesheets in decimal hours?
Once your worked hours are converted to decimal (for example 7.5 + 8.25 + 6.75), you can add them directly like ordinary numbers, then convert the total back to hours:minutes if needed using this tool's reverse mode — much simpler than adding hours and minutes separately.
Your time-tracking data stays local: nothing is sent to an external server.
