Text comparator (diff)
Compare two texts line by line. Paste the original text and the modified text, then click "Compare" to see the added lines (in green) and removed lines (in red).
How it works
Useful both for proofreading two versions of an article before publishing and for a developer wanting to compare two configuration files (for example two .env or two docker-compose.yml) without going through a Git repository. Paste the "Before" text on the left and the "After" text on the right, click "Compare": added lines appear in green, removed lines in red, line by line.
How is this different from a Git diff?
A Git diff compares two versions tracked in a repository's history and requires the files to be versioned. This tool simply compares two blocks of text that you paste directly, without needing a repository or even saving the files anywhere — handy for text received by email or an isolated code snippet.
Is the comparator case- and whitespace-sensitive?
Yes, the comparison is done strictly line by line: a case difference (uppercase/lowercase) or an extra trailing space will be flagged as a change. Remember to clean up extra spaces if you only want to spot content changes.
The comparison runs entirely in your browser thanks to WebAssembly: your texts, including code or confidential data, are never transmitted to a server.
