How it works

Elf names in most fantasy works follow soft, melodic sounds, often built around linked vowels and suffixes like “-iel” or “-wyn”. This tool combines a prefix, an optional central syllable, and a suffix suited to the chosen gender, then adds a nature-linked clan name (forest, moon, spring...) if requested, for a complete and believable result.

Why do elf names often sound alike from one work to another?

Many fantasy authors draw inspiration from the languages constructed by J.R.R. Tolkien (Quenya, Sindarin), which deeply influenced the sound conventions associated with elves in popular culture: long vowels, soft consonants, endings in “-iel” or “-ion”. This tool uses those classic sounds without copying any existing name.

Can I generate a clan name without a given name, or the other way around?

Uncheck the “Add a clan/lineage name” box to get only the given name, handy if you already have a surname in mind or if your universe doesn't use the concept of an elven lineage.
