Escape Room Clue Generator
Turn a secret message into an encoded clue for a home escape game, a birthday treasure hunt, or a game night with friends. Choose a cipher method, generate the clue, and keep the solution to yourself: everything is computed locally.
How it works
A good escape room clue should be solvable but not too obvious. This tool offers several classic cipher methods, suitable for paper-based use (poster, card to figure out, combination lock) without requiring a dedicated app for players.
Which method should I choose depending on the players' age?
Reversed text suits younger players (a mirror or reading it backwards is all it takes). The Caesar cipher requires knowing how alphabetical shifting works, appropriate for teenagers or adults. The numeric code works well for a combination lock if you only keep some digits of the result.
How do I give the clue without revealing the solution?
Note only the text from the "Clue to give to the players" field on your game support (paper, card, hidden message) and keep the solution displayed below to yourself, in case the players get stuck.
The secret message and its encoded version remain only in your browser; nothing is sent online.
