How it works
Writing "1/2" as plain text works, but a true Unicode fraction character ("½") takes up less space, aligns better in an ingredient list or a table, and makes text look more polished. Click the fraction you want to copy it instantly.
Why isn't there a Unicode character for every possible fraction?
Unicode only defines "precomposed fraction" characters for the most common everyday fractions (halves, thirds, quarters, fifths, sixths, eighths...). For a more unusual fraction (for example 3/16), there is no dedicated glyph: the classic "3/16" notation, possibly with styled superscript and subscript digits, remains the best option.
Are these fractions recognized as numbers by spreadsheet software?
No: in Excel or Google Sheets, pasting a character like "½" inserts text, not a computable numeric value. To perform calculations, you need to either enter 0.5 directly, or configure a "Fraction" cell format that automatically displays the numeric value as a fraction.
