What Generation Am I?
Enter a birth year to find out which sociological generation it corresponds to (Baby Boomers, Generation X, Y, Z, Alpha...), with its year ranges and key characteristics. Instant calculation, no server connection required.
How it works
Sociologists and demographers divide births into generations of about 15 to 18 years, shaped by major historical or technological events experienced at a similar age (war, economic boom, the rise of the Internet, social media...). This tool simply compares the year you enter with the usual ranges of these generations.
Are generation boundaries universal?
No: different institutes (Pew Research, INSEE, and others) use slightly different boundaries, varying by a year or two depending on their criteria. The ranges used here match the definitions most commonly cited in the press and in French-language sociological studies.
Do these categories say anything about my personality?
No, these are broad sociological categories describing a historical and technological context shared by a birth cohort, not individual personality traits: two people from the same generation can have very different life paths.
