GPS Polygon Area Calculator
Calculate the approximate area of a region bounded by a list of GPS coordinates (one per line, in outline order, format "latitude, longitude").
How it works
This tool projects the polygon points onto a local plane (equirectangular projection centered on the area's centroid), then applies the shoelace formula to calculate the area of the resulting polygon.
This approximation is very accurate for areas a few hundred kilometers wide or less — plots, land parcels, search zones — but becomes less exact over very large areas where the curvature of the Earth can no longer be ignored.
In what order should I enter the points?
Points must be entered in the order of the polygon outline (clockwise or counterclockwise, it doesn't matter). The last point is automatically connected to the first to close the shape.
100% local processing: the calculation takes place entirely in your browser via WebAssembly—your coordinates are never sent to a server.
