Optimize an Animated GIF
Reduce the size of an animated GIF by resizing its images and adjusting the animation speed, with the resulting file size shown before you download.
How this tool reduces the size of a GIF?
An animated GIF is made up of a series of individual images. This tool breaks your GIF into separate images, scales them down according to the chosen scale (a resolution reduction has a direct and significant impact on file size), then reassembles everything into a new animated GIF with the animation speed you set.
Why does the speed slider also affect the file size?
The speed slider does not directly change the size per frame, but it redefines the interval between each frame of the rebuilt animation; combined with the scale reduction, it lets you fine-tune the final result without changing the original number of frames.
Which scale should I choose for a good quality/size trade-off?
A scale of 60–80% already significantly reduces file size while staying visually close to the original for most animations. Go down to 30–50% if the GIF is intended for very compact use (animated icon, thumbnail preview).
100% local processing: the GIF is split, resized, and reassembled entirely in your browser via WebAssembly — no server upload.
