How it works
On social media, the color of a heart emoji often carries an implicit meaning (friendship, mourning, support for a cause…). Browse the categories above—understated black-and-white Unicode hearts or colorful emoji—and click to copy the one that matches your message.
What’s the difference between a Unicode heart (♥) and an emoji heart (❤️)?
The classic Unicode heart (♥, ♡) is a simple typographic character that takes on the color of the surrounding text, with no color variation possible. An emoji heart (❤️, 💙, 💚…) is a tiny fixed-color image, rendered differently by platform (Apple, Google, Samsung) but always recognizable. Use the former for a clean look in a document, and the latter for an expressive message on mobile or social media.
Why do some emoji hearts not display correctly in my Word document?
Some older versions of Word or certain fonts do not support color emoji rendering, so they display a black-and-white heart or even an empty rectangle. If you’re writing a document meant to be printed or opened on an older system, prefer the classic Unicode hearts (♥ ♡) from the first category, which are more widely compatible.
