Color Name from HEX Code
Enter a hexadecimal color code and get the closest standard color name, calculated by color distance among 140 reference names (X11/CSS). 100% local calculation, no data sent to a server.
How it works
A designer or developer who receives a standalone hexadecimal code (from a brand guideline or a Figma export) often needs a readable name to talk about it or document it. This tool compares the entered color to the 140 standard web color names (X11/CSS palette) and calculates the Euclidean distance between their red, green, and blue components to identify the closest name.
How is the “closest color” calculated?
The tool converts each color into its three RGB components (red, green, blue) then calculates the Euclidean distance between the entered color and each of the 140 reference names. The smaller this distance, the closer the named color is visually to the entered color; a distance of 0 means an exact match.
Why doesn’t the found name exactly match my color?
The name list is limited to 140 standard references: most possible hex colors don’t have an official exact name. The tool therefore shows the closest visual name, as well as the next 4 alternatives, so you can choose the most relevant designation.
No entered color is sent to a server: the comparison is done entirely in your browser.
