Convert HTML to Markdown
Paste an HTML snippet (headings, bold, italic, links, lists) and get its equivalent Markdown version.
How it works
Useful when you retrieve HTML content (a web article, a CMS export) and want to rewrite it in Markdown for a README file, a static blog post, or a note. The tool recognizes common tags (headings, bold, italic, code, links, lists, paragraphs, line breaks) and converts them into equivalent Markdown syntax, then removes the remaining tags it doesn't recognize.
Are all HTML tags converted?
No, only the most common tags (h1-h3 headings, bold, italic, code, links, lists, paragraphs, line breaks) are converted to Markdown syntax. Unrecognized tags (like tables or images) are simply removed from the final text; for complex HTML, a manual review of the result is recommended.
Does nested or malformed HTML cause problems?
The conversion relies on simple search patterns rather than a real HTML parser: heavily nested or improperly closed tags can produce a partial result. For clean, standard HTML, the conversion works reliably.
100% local processing: the conversion happens entirely in your browser via WebAssembly; your HTML content is never sent to a server.
