Audit image alt attributes (HTML)
Paste an HTML snippet to list all <img> tags and check which ones have no alt attribute, or have the attribute but leave it empty.
How it works
The alt attribute describes an image's content for screen reader users and search engines, and is displayed if the image fails to load. An accessibility or SEO audit often starts by checking that no important image lacks one. This tool lists every image found in an HTML snippet and indicates whether its alt attribute is missing, empty, or filled in.
Is an empty alt attribute (alt="") an error?
No, not necessarily: an alt="" is the correct practice for purely decorative images (e.g., a border or a visual separator), because it explicitly tells screen readers to ignore them. It's the total absence of an alt attribute on a meaningful image that is the problem.
What alt text should I write for a product image?
Describe what the image shows concisely and factually, including the product name if relevant — for example alt="Blue running shoe, side view" rather than a generic text like alt="image", which provides no value for either accessibility or SEO.
100% local processing: your HTML snippet is never sent to a server, the whole audit happens in your browser.
