Fit an image to a canvas without cropping

Fit an entire image into exact target dimensions without ever cropping it: it is scaled down to fit the canvas, centered, with color bands filling the remaining space.

How it works

Some imposed formats (banner, ad placement, layout template) require exact dimensions in pixels, but cropping an image to achieve them often cuts off part of the content. This tool scales the image down (without ever enlarging it beyond its original size or distorting it) so it fits entirely within the target dimensions, then centers the result on a background of the chosen color.

What's the difference from a simple resize?

A classic resize to exact dimensions distorts the image if its aspect ratio doesn't match the target ratio. Here, the original aspect ratio is always respected: the entire image remains visible, even if it means leaving color bands on the sides (letterbox/pillarbox) rather than stretching it.

What happens if my image is smaller than the target canvas?

If the image is already smaller than the target dimensions in both directions, it can be enlarged to fill the available space as well as possible while respecting its ratio; otherwise (at least one dimension too large), it is scaled down proportionally.

100% local processing: the canvas layout is calculated directly in your browser via the Canvas API — your image is never sent to a server.
