Blur the background of a portrait
Roughly paint the area to keep sharp (the subject) with a brush, then generate an image where everything else is blurred — much like a smartphone's portrait mode, without automatic subject detection.
How it works
The tool creates two versions of your image: a fully blurred one, and a sharp version of which only the area you painted in green (the mask) is kept. The final result overlays the sharp area onto the blurred version, giving the illusion of real depth of field without needing AI-based subject detection.
Why do I have to paint the area myself instead of automatic detection?
Automatic subject detection requires a heavy AI model, usually run on a server. To remain 100% local and lightweight in your browser, this tool lets you manually indicate the area to preserve, which also gives you total and predictable control over the result.
Are the edges of the painted area sharp or feathered?
The brush applies a solid circle on each pass, creating a fairly sharp transition between the sharp and blurred areas. For a smoother transition, make several slightly overlapping passes along the subject's outline rather than a single large circle.
100% local processing: mask drawing and blur are computed entirely in your browser — your photo is never sent to a server.
