BlurHash placeholder generator

Generate a compact BlurHash string (a few dozen characters) from an image, to display a blurred placeholder with the right color gradient while your photos load.

Example:
20 MB max. Works with any photo.

What is a BlurHash used for?

A BlurHash is a very short string that encodes a very low-frequency (blurred) version of an image: its dominant colors and their approximate distribution. Many websites and apps display it as a placeholder while the real photo loads (like Unsplash or Medium), avoiding a white or gray flash and making loading feel smoother.

What do the "horizontal/vertical components" settings mean?

They control how much detail the BlurHash captures in each direction: the higher the values, the more color nuance and coarse image structure the decoded result keeps, at the cost of a slightly longer string. Low values (3–4) are enough for a simple preview of dominant colors.

How do I use this hash on my website or app?

Store the generated string next to your image URL (for example in your database), then decode it client-side with a BlurHash library (available for JavaScript, Swift, Kotlin, etc.) to display the blurred preview immediately, before the real image is even downloaded.

100% local processing: image analysis and BlurHash calculation happen entirely in your browser; your photo is never sent to a server.
