Add a checkerboard background (transparency)

Add the classic gray/white checkerboard pattern behind a transparent PNG image, to precisely visualize transparent areas or export a thumbnail that clearly shows transparency.

Example:
Drag and drop an image here, or click to browse (25 MB max).

How it works

The tool first draws a grid of squares alternating two colors (the checkerboard pattern used by most photo editing software to represent transparency), then overlays your transparent image on top. The exported result is a flattened image with no transparency, where the checkerboard is directly baked into the pixels.

Why would I want to flatten the transparency into a checkerboard instead of keeping it?

Some platforms or formats do not display transparency correctly, or you simply want to visually illustrate (in documentation, a tutorial, or a client screenshot) which areas of a visual are transparent. The integrated checkerboard keeps that information visible even after exporting to JPG or in a context that ignores alpha.

Can I choose the checkerboard size to match a specific software?

Yes, the tile size is adjustable in pixels: reduce it for a fine, discreet pattern, or increase it for a clearly visible checkerboard on large images. The two tile colors are also customizable if you prefer a different contrast from the standard gray/white.

100% local processing: checkerboard generation and composition happen entirely in your browser — your image is never sent to a server.
