Convert an image to grayscale
Turn your photos into black and white, for example to prepare a print or achieve an artistic look.
How it works
Preparing a photo print for a black-and-white printer, or simply after the timeless effect of a grayscale photo? Upload one or more images and run the conversion: each color pixel is replaced by its gray equivalent, preserving the original image's perceived brightness.
Does the conversion account for human color perception?
Yes. A naive grayscale conversion (a raw average of the red, green, and blue channels) often produces a result that's too dark or too light compared to what the eye actually perceives. The tool uses a standard weighting that gives more weight to green, to which the human eye is most sensitive, for a more accurate grayscale rendering.
Can I go back to the color image afterwards?
No: converting to grayscale permanently removes the color information from the processed image. Always keep a copy of the original if you think you might need the color version later.
100% local processing: the conversion is performed in your browser via our WebAssembly module — your images are never sent to a server.
