Vintage Light Leak Effect on an Image

Add a colored light leak in a corner of your photo, like those caused by light seeping into a vintage film camera. Choose the color, the source corner, and the intensity of the glow.

Drag and drop an image, or click to browse. 25 MB max.

How It Works

A colored radial gradient is placed in the chosen corner, then overlaid on the image with the "screen" (lighten) blend mode, which brightens the photo's tones without darkening areas that are already light. The result mimics the stray light infiltration typical of old, poorly sealed film cameras.

Why use "screen" blend mode rather than a simple overlay?

A standard overlay would darken the image in the dark areas of the gradient. "Screen" mode only lightens, faithfully reproducing the behavior of stray light that adds to the film exposure without ever darkening it.

Can I combine this effect with other vintage filters?

Yes. First apply a film grain or vintage photo effect, download the result, then re-import it here to add the light leak on top: the effects combine well for a complete film look.

The gradient and blend mode are computed directly in your browser via canvas — your photo is never sent to a server.
