Pixelate an image

Upload an image, adjust the block size, and get a pixelated retro 8-bit version — also handy for stylishly blurring an area (face, license plate).

How it works

Want to anonymize a sensitive area of a photo (face, license plate, document) without using a classic blur, or simply give an image a retro "8-bit" look for a creative project or a fun thumbnail? Upload your image, adjust the block size, and run the pixelation: colors are averaged in square blocks, which crushes the details while keeping the overall shapes and colors recognizable.

How do I choose the block size?

A low value (2 to 10px) gives a light effect, almost a simple softening. A higher value (20 to 60px) crushes the details more, up to the point of making faces or text completely unrecognizable — useful if the goal is truly to anonymize an area rather than create a simple visual effect.

Can I pixelate only part of the image?

This tool pixelates the entire image in a single pass. To anonymize only a specific area, first crop the image around that area with a cropping tool, apply pixelation, then recompose the visual in an image editor if needed.
