Make white transparent

Convert the white background (or any near-white area) of an image into transparency, with an adjustable tolerance to cover light gray shades. Handy for a scanned logo or a screenshot on a white background.

Example:
Drag and drop an image here, or click to browse (25 MB max).
A higher value also turns light grays into transparency.

How it works

The tool analyzes each pixel of the image and calculates how far its color is from pure white (255, 255, 255). If this deviation stays below the chosen tolerance, the pixel's alpha channel is set to zero (full transparency), while other pixels remain unchanged. The result is exported as PNG, the only format able to preserve transparency.

Why isn't my white background fully transparent?

"White" backgrounds from scans, screenshots, or JPEG compression often contain slight variations (off-white, very light gray, compression artifacts near edges). Gradually increase the tolerance until the whole background disappears, without eating into the light details of the subject.

Does the result keep the white areas inside the subject?

No: the tool processes each pixel independently of its position, without detecting edges or distinguishing the "background" from the "subject". An object containing white or very light gray areas (text, reflection, light clothing) will see those areas become transparent too if they fall within the chosen tolerance.

The replacement of white with transparency is computed pixel by pixel directly in your browser — your image never leaves your device.
