JSON type inconsistency detector

Paste a JSON array of objects to detect keys whose value type varies from one object to another (for example an id that is sometimes a number and sometimes text). Useful for spotting poorly normalized data before a database import or processing.

Example:

How it works

When JSON data comes from several sources (forms, successive imports, different APIs), the same key can end up as a number in some places and a string in others, which often breaks downstream automated processing. Paste your array of objects and click "Detect conflicts": every key whose type varies is listed with the types found and example objects affected (by index).

How are types determined?

The recognized types are those of JSON: string, number, boolean, object, array and null (treated as a separate type, distinct from a missing value). An array and an object are properly told apart, even though both are of the JavaScript type object.

Is a key missing from some objects considered a conflict?

No: this tool only looks at objects where the key is present and compares only the types of the values found. To analyze whether a key is present or missing across objects, use the "JSON key coverage report" tool instead.

Nothing is sent to a server: type conflict detection runs entirely in your browser, on your own data.
