How it works

When a business customer pays an invoice after the agreed due date, the law (in France, Article L441-10 of the Commercial Code, for B2B relationships) allows late interest to be charged pro rata to the number of days late, along with a fixed indemnity for recovery costs. This tool applies that standard calculation to your situation.

How is the late interest rate set by law?

If no rate is specified in the general terms of sale, the legal rate that applies between businesses is the European Central Bank's interest rate plus 10 points. In practice, many contracts set an explicit contractual rate, so check your terms of sale to use the right annual percentage.

Is the fixed €40 fee always due?

Between businesses in France, this minimum €40 recovery fee is due automatically as soon as a late payment is established, in addition to interest. It can be adjusted upward if your actual recovery costs are higher, but €40 remains the regulatory minimum.
