How it works

Since 2009, the French Vehicle Registration System (SIV) has used the format AA-123-AA: two letters, three digits, two letters, with no link to the owner's department of residence. This tool generates a fake but correctly formatted combination, useful for testing an input field's display or illustrating a document.

Why are the letters I, O, and U absent?

This is a fun fact about the real French SIV system: the letters I, O, and U are deliberately excluded from the alphabet used for plates, since they can be visually confused with the digits 1 and 0. This tool faithfully reproduces that rule.

Does this plate correspond to a real vehicle?

No, the combination is drawn at random and doesn't come from any official register; it should never be used on an actual vehicle, only for testing or illustration.
