How it works

Each European country has its own plate format rules: regional or provincial code, number of letters and digits, and letters excluded to avoid visual confusion. This tool applies those rules to generate a fictional but believable combination, without ever drawing from a real register of registered vehicles.

Do these plates match real vehicles?

No. Each plate is drawn at random locally in your browser and doesn't come from any official database. It must never be put on a real vehicle, and is meant only for software testing, graphic mockups or illustration.

Why do the formats differ so much from one country to another?

In Germany, the prefix corresponds to a city or district code (Berlin = B, Munich = M...). In Spain, the current format deliberately avoids vowels and certain ambiguous consonants. Italy places a block of three digits between two pairs of letters, while Belgium has used a format of one digit followed by three letters and then three digits since 2018.

Generation runs entirely in your browser: no data is sent to a server, or stored after you close the page.
