Lottery odds calculator

Calculate the exact probability of winning a lottery jackpot from the number of picks, the possible number range and any bonus numbers. The combinatorial calculation runs entirely in your browser.

How it works

Before playing, it can be useful to take a cold, hard look at your real chances: this tool calculates the exact number of possible tickets for a given lottery using combinatorics (the number of ways to choose k numbers out of n, regardless of order), then derives the probability of hitting the winning combination.

Why is the probability so small?

The number of possible combinations explodes very quickly with the size of the draw: for 5 numbers out of 49, there are already more than 1.9 million possible combinations, and that figure is then multiplied by the bonus number combinations. This combinatorial explosion, inherent to the mathematics of drawing without replacement, explains odds on the order of one in several million or tens of millions.

Does the calculation work for any lottery?

Yes, as long as the principle is a draw of k unique numbers out of n, optionally complemented by an independent bonus draw of the same kind: just adjust the parameters to reproduce the rules of any national or regional lottery, including less common formats.

No data is sent anywhere: the combinatorial calculation is performed entirely in your browser.
