How it works

When you write a formula in an email, an exercise problem or a slide, you usually can't use a real equation editor like LaTeX or Word's editor. This page provides the most commonly used Unicode math symbols as plain text, so you can insert them right where you need them.

Do these symbols replace LaTeX for complex formulas?

No: Unicode symbols work well for simple expressions in running text ("x ≥ 0", "A ∩ B", "√2"), but for complex formulas with stacked fractions, matrices or integrals with limits, a real rendering engine like LaTeX or MathML is still essential. This page is a handy add-on for simple text, not a replacement for a scientific equation editor.

Can I use these symbols in a variable name in programming?

Some modern languages (Python 3, Julia) accept Unicode characters in variable names (for example "π" or "∆"), but it isn't a universally recommended practice: it can make typing harder for other developers and isn't supported by all languages or tools. These symbols remain perfectly suitable for code comments or documentation, though.

This page works only in your browser: no formula or search is sent anywhere else.
