Mental load checklist generator
Make the invisible daily tasks visible. Select the areas of life involved, say how many people share these tasks, and get a clear checklist to divide up within the household.
How it works
Mental load covers all the invisible work of planning, anticipating and coordinating that surrounds a household's visible tasks. This tool lists, area by area, the concrete tasks that make up this load, so you can talk it through and divide it up deliberately rather than leaving it to one person.
Why divide up the mental load and not just the tasks?
Sharing the execution of a task (for example, grocery shopping) isn't enough if one person is still the only one thinking about what to buy, when and why. This checklist helps identify who really drives each task, not just who carries it out on a given occasion, so you can have a fairer conversation about how it's divided.
Is this checklist exhaustive?
No, it offers a base of common tasks for each area, to adapt to your actual situation (household makeup, children, pets, remote work...). Use it as a starting point for a conversation as a couple or family, not as a fixed list. This tool is an organizational aid and in no way constitutes medical or psychological advice about burnout related to mental load.
The checklist is generated entirely in your browser: no data you enter is sent to a server.
