Meta refresh redirect generator

Enter the target URL and the delay you want to generate a <meta http-equiv="refresh"> tag and its JavaScript equivalent, to be used only when a server redirect isn't possible.

Example:

How it works

The meta refresh tag tells the browser to automatically reload the page to another URL after a given delay, without any server involvement. The JavaScript equivalent uses setTimeout to do the same thing on the client side. Both methods only work once the page has already loaded in the user's browser, unlike a server redirect, which happens before the page content is even sent.

Why is a server-side 301 redirect preferable?

An HTTP 301 redirect tells search engines and browsers explicitly and immediately that the old URL has moved permanently to the new one, which passes on nearly all of the old page's SEO value. A meta refresh or JavaScript redirect, by contrast, forces the browser to load the old page first before redirecting, which slows down the user experience, may be interpreted differently by different crawlers, and conveys the permanent redirect signal less reliably.

When should I still use a meta refresh or JavaScript redirect?

Mainly when you don't have access to the server configuration (for example on very limited static hosting or a standalone HTML page with no backend), or for a temporary, non-SEO case such as a redirect after a form submission. As soon as possible, switch to a 301 redirect handled by the server or your CDN.

Privacy: generation happens entirely in your browser, and the URL you enter is never sent to a server.
