How it works
The tool determines the date of the upcoming January 1 from your device's current date (if the new year has just begun, the target automatically switches to the following year), then shows the time remaining, refreshed every second without reloading the page.
Is the countdown based on my time zone?
Yes: the "January 1 at midnight" target is calculated using your browser's local time, so it follows the time zone set on your device. Two people in different time zones will therefore see a different time remaining, each reaching midnight at their own local moment.
Can I use this countdown at a New Year's Eve party?
Yes, the page updates continuously without any action on your part: leave it open on a screen or projector during your party, and it will automatically show the final countdown to midnight.
No information about your location or device is transmitted: only your browser's local clock is used.
