How it works

Speed in km/h (often used by treadmills) and pace in min/km (often used by road runners) measure the same thing in two different forms. This tool converts instantly from one to the other, in both directions.

What formula is used?

To go from km/h to min/km, you divide 3600 seconds by the speed in km/h, which gives the number of seconds needed to cover one kilometer. For the reverse, you divide 3600 by the pace expressed in seconds per kilometer. The two formulas are simply the inverse of each other.

Why does my treadmill show a speed when my training plan talks about pace?

Treadmills, often designed for an international market, generally display speed in km/h or mph, while running training plans in many countries traditionally use pace in min/km. This tool lets you quickly set your treadmill to the right speed to hit the pace set out in your plan.
