Paragraph counter
Automatically count the number of paragraphs in a text, along with the average number of words per paragraph. The count updates live as you type, entirely in your browser.
How it works
Handy for checking the structure of an essay, a blog post or an email before sending it: a text split into too few paragraphs is often hard to read on screen. Paste your text into the box above, and the counters update automatically.
How is a paragraph detected?
The tool considers that a new paragraph begins after a completely empty line (that is, two consecutive line breaks). A single line break inside the same block of text is not counted as a paragraph separator, which matches the convention used in most word processors and Markdown editors.
Why is the average number of words per paragraph useful?
An average that is too high (above 150-200 words) can indicate paragraphs that are too dense for comfortable reading on screen, especially on mobile. It's a quick indicator for spotting blocks of text that need more breathing room before publishing.
No data is sent to a server: all the calculation happens directly in your browser.
