How it works

A PDF reviewed and commented on by several people accumulates notes scattered across every page, which are hard to track down once the document gets long. This tool goes through each page of the PDF, reads its internal annotation dictionary, and extracts the text, the declared author, and the type (note, highlight, free text, etc.) into a list you can browse and export.

Why do some annotations show no author?

An annotation's author name depends on the software used to create it: some PDF readers always record it, others only if a user profile is configured. When this information is missing from the file, the tool shows a dash rather than an invented name.

Are highlights and freehand drawings included?

Yes, as long as they have an associated text comment (visible by clicking on them in a PDF reader) or a declared author. A plain highlight stroke with no attached comment is ignored, since there is no text to extract.

100% local processing: annotations are read entirely in your browser — your PDF is never sent to a server.
